Virginia Garden Week

Virginia opens its doors for Historic Garden Week

If you are looking for a spring retreat then Virginia is the ideal location to celebrate the end of winter. During Virginia Historic Garden Week (22- 28 April 2012) the state will be opening the doors to more than 205 of its most beautiful gardens, picturesque homes and historic landmarks. Discover quaint American charm and take one of the many tours exploring beautiful historic properties and blossoming gardens this spring in ‘America’s Largest Open House’.

Discover the historic district of Fredericksburg, take a tour through the fashionable area of Kenmore and visit the home of George Washington’s sister, the Historic Kenmore Plantation and Gardens, before discovering beautiful artworks at the James Monroe Museum.

Alternatively, take a tour through picturesque Old Town Alexandria, and discover a host of charming boutiques, restaurants, antique shops and theatres. Hop on a river cruise, be entertained by entertainers or stroll through stalls of fresh produce in Old Town’s quaint Market Square, one of the oldest operating in the US.

Want to take to the water? Then take the I85 south from Richmond to the border with North Carolina and enjoy the expansive shoreline and waters of the 35 mile long Lake Gaston. Discover stunning views across the lake and take tours through the beautiful homes that surround the lake. If you are feeling a little more adventurous then why not have a go at fishing, wakeboarding or even waterskiing.
